How to choose a book PDF Print E-mail

Can you read the book? Try the Five Finger Test.Wise owl.

THE FIVE FINGER TEST

To check whether a book is too easy or too hard, try this simple test.

  • Open the book at any page and start reading.
  • Each time you come to a word you don't know put down one finger on your left hand.
  • If you read five tricky words on the same page, and placed down five fingers, perhaps the book is a bit hard for you at the moment.
  • Put it back for now and try again next term or next year.

Read the blurb! Does the book sound interesting to you?

Does the cover and front page intrigue you?

Have any of your friends read and recommended the book to you?
